IP stands for Internet Protocol. It is a set of rules that govern how devices communicate over a network, such as the internet. When you connect a device to a network, it is assigned an IP address, which is a unique numerical label that identifies the device on the network. IP addresses are used to route data packets between devices, allowing them to communicate with each other and access resources on the network. There are two main versions of IP in use today: IP version 4 (IPv4) and IP version 6 (IPv6).
Why is IP used?
In essence, IP addresses are numerical labels assigned to devices that connect to a network, such as the internet. These addresses are used to identify and locate devices on the network, and to route data packets between them. An IP address consists of a series of numbers separated by periods, and is used to uniquely identify a device on the network. For example, a device might have an IP address of "192.168.1.100". There are two main versions of IP in use today: IP version 4 (IPv4) and IP version 6 (IPv6). IPv4 addresses consist of four numbers separated by periods, while IPv6 addresses are longer and consist of eight groups of hexadecimal digits separated by colons.
